Transform Yourself into a Better Human being and a Successful Businessman

In life, we strive and do whatever it takes to succeed, but in doing so we are missing the most important factor that every businessman must think of... WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE!!!

The business world is filled with people we meet with different types of business, different products to sell but mostly we meet people who are involved in the same genre of business as ourselves. It's a natural tendency because where we work is where we focus our time and attention.

Sometimes we’re helping each other in a synergistic way and other times we’re competing for the same dollar from the same customer and this is natural result of the free market we enjoy.

Nobody's perfect! This old age saying applies not only to a person, but also to a product or services offered. No one lays claim to having a perfect product nor a perfect service, it simply has to have imperfections with it.

Having said that, we must always remind ourselves of the possibility that someone might be ahead of us, behind us, and often time both at the same time.

Nevertheless, we shouldn't let that be a hindrance nor a distraction from continuing forward with what we believe in. Instead, embrace the reality that competition is everywhere and this healthy competition is what drives and makes us better tomorrow than what we have today.

Sure, there will always be those that cut a few corners to cheat the system for a quick leg up on their competitors but those with Dark desires always end up in a losing battle.

Remember during Elementary, High School and College days we get to have our class Valedictorian, Cum Laude etc. Yet these titles never guaranteed our future success in business just as not winning these awards doomed us to a life of 2nd tier failure.

Because in business, it is not intelligence alone that creates our spot in the limelight. Determination, courage, guts and persistence are usually the factors that win in the end. Just making the decision to get up and head to the office one more Saturday and Sunday is often the difference between the winning and losing.

Its a game we grumble about but how we play the game makes all the difference and we cannot forget that in our world, there are 2 sides to everything. Sportsmanship on the field, in the workplace, and in business is what sets you apart so even if success doesn’t come your way the first time around, playing the game the right way will always present you with a second chance.

There’s no doubt you’re going to lose a few rounds but this journey has plenty of road to recover so you can celebrate the rounds you win.

In Your Next Webinar Invite a Guest Presenter to get Better Leads and Sales

It Feels awesome to Be a Part of a Great Race - Chased the Clouds and Loved it!

I’m not 100% sure that I should be “thanking” CloudNet360 for sponsoring me in the Fort2Base race because I think they’re still laughing at me for actually doing it.

On one hand, it was a great cause and an even better venue. Hands down one of the best organized races I have ever participated in (what else would you expect from a race hosted and organized by the military folks) and one of the most scenic venues.

Running through the historic naval base, into the woods and along Lake Michigan certainly gave all of the runners plenty of sights to soak in while racing… until we spotted Hero Hill.

Suddenly this scenic run turned into a nightmare of steep grade and long distance!

Hero Hill is appropriately named because it takes a truly heroic effort not to stop and walk up this tortuous beast. The actual grade of the hill is a well-guarded secret but I suspect that if you fall down on this hill, you aren’t going to stop tumbling until you reach the bottom.

Fortunately for the racers, the military guys were positioned on Hero Hill waiting for us to run alongside the racers to motivate and encourage them to keep pushing to the top. I’m not sure how many times these guys ran up and down that hill (it was a lot) but anything more than once puts them squarely into the “hero” category.

In the end, I had a great race and placed well, so I guess I need to begrudgingly say “thank you” to CloudNet360 for sponsoring me and to all the organizers and volunteers at the Great Lakes Naval Base for putting on a great event. With a full year to forget how long and steep Hero Hill truly is, I’m sure I’ll be back next year for more (fun?!?).

Instead of Using Gadgets, Try Something Different for a Change

Is your business made out of gadgets, doo dads and wiz bangs?

It’s common you know. You try and “fix” your business with a shiny new patch or a bolt on gadget.

And some of them work… for a while anyhow.

Then everyone starts using the same gimmicky gadget or doo dad and suddenly your gadget doesn’t seem to work as well.

Sound familiar?

Now it might sound like I’m against these fad items but I’m really not. There’s really nothing wrong with bouncing from one profitable fad to the next as long as it keeps a positive cash flow coming in and as long as this fits your intended business model.

Specialty retailers thrive off of finding the next fad and then exploiting it for massive profits before the rest of the retailers discover the product and turn it into a commodity.

This can be a great business model as long as it’s really your business model.
The danger starts circling the raft when it’s not really your business model. When you really have a more traditional business model that you’re trying to improve, or fix, by adding these gadgets and doo dads.

And instead of working on a solid foundation and systems for your business, you’re suddenly watching your business whipsaw from one fad to the next in a desperate effort to find growth and stop the bleeding.

This isn’t just a small business affliction, or limited to the inexperienced; you see it with oldest big name conglomerates as well. They just happen to have much bigger gadgets and doo dads… commonly referred to as “mergers and acquisitions”.

Of course, this is really just another way of saying they shouldn’t have wasted all that time and money on gadgets and they should have focused on the foundation of their business and the systems that make their company truly better than their competitors.

Small businesses make the same mistakes but they tend to do it with things more resembling gadgets.

For example, instead of focusing on their existing website, and split testing different pages and various offers, they’ll run out and buy the latest landing page generator that just launched. After all, the landing page founders swear it’ll improve their conversion rates by 28% or more and have even come up with some really creative new terms to brand their process.

Naturally a newly termed “lead magnet” product is going to work better than an old fashioned “low priced lead in offer” – right?

Or instead of simply adding and testing an upsell in their current sales flow, they try to hire a new “consulting” company to create an entirely new sales funnel. These companies usually spend far more money than they’re willing to spend to simply test an alternate of what they already have.

But guess what?

The only way that new sales funnel is actually going to improve your business is by going through the same split testing, measuring, modifying, and improving process that could have, and should have, been performed on the original sales funnel.

Now what I’m going to recommend is definitely not going to sound as fun or exciting as attending a webinar or hiring an outside team of “experts” and then reinventing your entire sales process. I know this… but I’ll do it anyhow.

Here is my 5 step process for improving your existing business:

  1. Start with fresh eyes – You need to get an unbiased 3rd party to look at what you’re doing and have them tell you what they like and what they don’t like.

    I recommend hiring someone for this process versus counting on your mom, Uncle Bill, roommate, or friend. There are too many cheap sources for finding a person to do this for you so there’s no excuse not to do it (hint: Fiverr, Upwork, etc.)

  2. Test the process yourself – Go through your entire sales flow as a customer to see what you like and don’t like.

  3. Compare notes – Often, you already know what’s wrong but see if your ideas match up with the ideas from your 3rd party. If they do, then you’ve likely identified a major source of trouble.

  4. Ignore what both of you think – In the end, it’s still just an opinion. It’s probably a good starting point but trusting your opinion, or someone else’s opinion, is a good way to fail.

  5. Test and improve it – Then test it again, improve it again, and just keep going until you cannot seem to get any additional improvement. 
Like I said, it’s not sexy, but it works.

If you really want to improve your business and systems, then you need to keep it simple, test it, ignore the fads, and build a strong foundation with systems that you own and processes that work for your business.
